Review
PlayChess is a client for an online chess service. This particular application allows you to play against users of Playchess.com. It won't require a registration, which means that you can simply download the client and start playing as a guest. Once inside the application, the main GUI is divided by tabs in Players, Games and World. The most important ones are Players and Games. There you can check if there is any game open for you to join or if there are any games in progress. Playchess is really popular, so it is easy to find games. You can play rated or unrated games. If you play and win a lot of rated games, your ranking will increase. Unrated games don't count for your ranking. But you do have to register to earn points. You can even watch games that are in progress. The chess "board" (the actual game) is simple but elegant. The pieces are well crafted and it is easy to move them. From the main screen, you can access chess magazines and tutorials. You can also buy various books. You can even play more than one game at a time. It would be great if there was an easy way to determine the skills of your opponents. Creating Easy, Medium and Hard games is a feature that would be fantastic for this application. |
